First of all, I have a technical background, but I have no DIY/craft skills. With that said, this project had been in my head ever since the first iPad surfaced. Unfortunately the original iPads are just way too big! As such I bought a Blackberry Playbook with the intention of carrying this out, however, the Playbook is a dire piece of kit!

When I carried out this project, I drove a 2006, MK2 Ford Focus, so a pretty standard car. I love music, and have an aftermarket speaker setup installed. Nothing earth shattering, but a little better than stock. With my technical background, I was looking into a carputer, but figured that I didn't like the fixed setup and feared a little for security.

With the launch of the iPad Mini, I was able to fulfil my dream, whilst getting stuck into my first Fiberglass project! By taking the #ipadminimoto approach, I was free to remove the iPad as I come and go, leaving only worthless cables behind in the vehicle. Below are pictures of the resulting few weeks of crafting and what was probably the first/only Ford Focus in the UK with an in dash iPad Mini?

April 2016: The car has long since sold, and I still get emails/requests about this project. Which is nice. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to make any more of these fascias, nor was I ever, this project was purely 'something for me', and at the time, was driven by my enthusiasm. If you're wanting to carry out something similar, all I can say, is give it a go. It wasn't all that tricky.
